Some of Us Are Even More at Risk

Sensitive people who are especially affected by polluted air make up 25% of the citizens of this country. This makes air pollution the largest health problem we face. Those who are particularly at risk include:

  • Our children
  • Senior citizens
  • People with lung and heart diseases
  • Healthy, athletic people who exercise outside
Grandmother and Children

Kids are particularly vulnerable because their lungs and defense mechanisms are not fully developed. They inhale more air for their size (and more pollution!) than adults, and are more active outdoors during the summer when many pollutants peak.
