or
decades scientists have established increasingly alarming evidence of the
harmful effects of air pollution on our health and the health of interrelated
ecosystems on which we depend. This growing database of evidence is documented
both in laboratories and in multiyear field studies. The extent of a community's
pollution problems and the continuous evaluation of remedies to clean up
the air are monitored by an extensive outdoor air monitoring network spread
across the US. Energy sources and production are undergoing a transformation.
Historical policies are being adapted in a partnership with nature. The
way in which we as individuals and we as communities integrate and act on
scientific evidence will determine the future.
