Zero-Emission Vehicles (ZEVs) produce no air pollution. Battery-powered electric vehicles are the only ZEVs available today.

The Electric Connection: Fueling Transportation with Electricity

Transportation is the only major economic sector where until now little electricity has been used. But that's changing. Many car manufacturers are developing electric models that extract 3 times the energy per unit of fuel as current gasoline engines. Car makers are cutting the costs of electric engines, some by as much as 50%, cutting the engine size in half, reducing the number of engine parts, and taking advantage of advanced battery technologies that expand the driving range between recharges. Right now, in California, we can lease an electric vehicle and cut our tailpipe pollution to zero.
